Select the correct oil in the EOT crane gear box

Correct oil in the gear box will increase the life of crane and hoist, while incorrect oil will reduce the lift and even result in wear of the parts.
After finishing the last article on the inspection project, I suddenly thought of an important point nobody mentioned: oil. I'm not referring to the oil level. This is something that is rarely ignored. EOT the type of oil in the gear box on the crane and the length of the oil in the gearbox are two factors I want to say.
In order for your crane to run effectively, you should ask yourself three questions about the gearbox of the EOT crane.
Is there any correct oil in the gearbox of my EOT crane?
What happens to my crane if there is wrong oil in the gearbox of my EOT crane?
Is the oil in my tank crane good?
No matter what the manufacturer recommends, I see again and again that the 80/90 weight oil is put into the gearbox. This weight is not a lubricant for general lubricants. Such a thing will not happen because the misunderstanding of the weight of the oil and the misunderstanding of its true meaning will lead to confusion about what type of oil is put into the gear box. The viscosity is the thickness of the oil. The thinner the oil, the smaller the amount of oil. The reason why the flow resistance is small is that its thickness is large. So it is very important to install the correct gear oil in the gear box. Your automatic transmission oil is thinner than the gear box oil, so that it can give it more protection. The resistance flow does not need to be  as low as that of your car. EOT crane gear box oil will usually have additives. This will indicate extreme pressure, wear resistance, rust resistance, emulsification resistance, or foam resistance will be allowed. It is equally important to know that gear oil is evaluated by API, and oil is not comparable, because it is not.

The transmission device of a crane plays a decisive role, and it will require a specific type of oil. Your crane has a recommended viscosity level for your oil to maintain gear protection and cooling. The working temperature, gear speed, gear box pressure, load, accommodation and transmission type of your gear will be determined by your oil type.  The master Handbook of your crane should tell  you what the oil needed for the gearbox is. Do not think that each gear box on your crane takes the same oil. This is not usually the case. If different oil is used, the gearbox of the hoist will be more likely than the bridge gearbox. If your contact crane service company is uncertain about the type of oil, then they  should be able to provide you with the right type. You can also read the  standard specification of AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association) to get  the appropriate viscosity level for your gearbox. This is not found by the manufacturer of your crane, and there is not enough information to be provided  to the service company to get the recommended oil. The manufacturer's requirement for EOT crane gear box oil is determined according to the normal ambient temperature and operating conditions. This is the most important. If cranes are used outside these parameters, even if they are specified by the crane, there may be no correct oil. If that's the case, Then you must refer to  the AGMA standard to select the most suitable oil grade for the crane.
What happens to my crane if there is wrong oil in the gearbox of my EOT crane?
You may have several different questions about oil viscosity too high or too low. The first sign of erroneous oil is that both can lead to overheating. You can also get foam oil, which can also cause significant oil leakage and serious damage to various components. Excessive noise from gearboxes may also come from wrong lubrication. In the daily inspection, the inspector of the bridge crane will check enough oil level and check the gear box vent. The oil expands and shrinks with the operating temperature, so the respirator is very important. The seals on the gearbox may be blown out because of the blockage of the respirator. In order to prevent contamination accumulation in gear boxes, you can install  preventive maintenance procedures on your overhead cranes. If you don't want to spend high cost checking gear box, you can see the quality of your oil through the annual oil sample.
Is there any correct oil in the gearbox of my EOT crane?
The average shelf life of oil is about 5 years, and some oil producers claim that their oil will take only two years. You have an oil  barrel, which does not mean that it is a good oil. Your bridge crane service provider can tell you how to store oil. If they know what the shelf-life is, then you may want to consider asking someone who works for your crane. It is  the best interval to check gear every four years on average. If you haven't checked your EOT crane gearbox yet, you can find a time to arrange it now. The important thing is gear inspection, because it not only gets fresh oil in gear box, but also your internal parts will be inspected. It's the only way to know if your machine has any wear and tear. This is your load brakes in most hoists, so it is an important inspection. If you change your oil by yourself, you should do it when the oil is hot. The gear box should be flushed out. Please keep the drain plug closed when you add the recommended oil. The wrong type of oil or contaminated lubricant will cause the gearbox to run very loudly. The contaminated lubricant  is usually corroded by water or dirt entering the gear box, which causes the  oil to deteriorate. This will restrict the oil volume of the gear and cause GAR and bearing wear. If you want to enter the gear box simply through condensation or moisture, you can use water. Wear and failure of gears and bearings may also  lead to other problems. This is an annual oil sample that will be able to determine whether any contamination exists in the gear box. In order to know whether you wear the gear, you can check metal fragments.
The final conclusion is that no two kinds of oil are the same, you have the right oil in your EOT crane gear box, if it has been in the gearbox for many years, then it may have been bad at some time. In order to  prevent the wear of the transmission, clutch and load brake of the crane, fresh oil is very important. The annual sample of the gearbox should be taken to check for wear and contamination. Periodical gear box inspection is carried out  according to the manufacturer's recommendations (every 4 years). Carry out preventive maintenance procedures for your bridge cranes, which will ensure the safe operation of your equipment and increase the service life of the bridge.
