It is possible that fatalities or injuries occur if lever hoists are not inspected  and properly used. For instance, When it was not intended, or it is damaged or malfunctioning, but still need to lift or pull beyond the lever hoist’s rated capacity.
As such, it is important that you know how to demonstrate safe operation before using lever hoists. You will need to identify any warnings and instructions for the safe use of equipment and ensure the lever hoist operators/users are fully trained. It is necessary to inspect lever hoist, which involves checking the condition of the load chain, lift and sheave wheels, hooks, lifting chain, frame covers and the hanger, in order to identify any wear and tear. It is also important that users know any safety devices well, such as limit switch, load brakes, hook latch, emergency stop and shock protection and identify the Working Load Limit.
Following is warning for lever hoist operators.
  1.  Lubricate load chain per hoist manufacturer’s recommendations.
  2.  Avoid lever “fly-back” by keeping a firm grip on the lever until operating stroke is completed and the lever is at rest.
  3.  Maintain a firm footing or be otherwise secured when operating the lever hoist.
  4.  Check brake function by the lever hoist prior to each lift or pulling operation.
  5.  Make sure the load is free to move and clear all obstructions.
  6.  Use hook latches, Latches are to retain slings, chains, etc. under slack conditions only.
  7.  Avoid swinging the load or hook.
  8.  Inspect the lever hoist regularly, replace damaged or worn parts, and keep appropriate records of maintenance.
  9.  Use the lever hoist manufacturer’s recommended parts when repairing the unit.
 10.  Make sure the hook latches are closed and not supporting any parts of the load.
 11.  NOT allow your attention to be diverted from operating the lever hoist.
 12.  NOT adjust or repair the lever hoist unless qualified to perform such adjustments or repairs.
Improper operation of a hoist can create a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. To avoid such a potentially hazardous situation, the operator follow all suggested steps, at least to keep the injury to minor or moderate.

 13.  NOT permit more than one operator to pull on lever at the same time. More than one operator is likely to cause lever hoist overload.

 14.  NOT use the hoist load limiting or warning device to measure load.
 15.  NOT allow the hoist to be subjected to sharp contact with other hoists, structures, or objects through misuse.
 16.  NOT operate except with manual power.
Above all, you should raise awareness of safe operation for lever hoist.
