They are useful in reducing possible injuries that pose a threat to professionals that work at dangerous heights.
They are used to protect against falls, with a great deal of freedom of movement due to the cable length is adjusted automatically thanks to a recall system integrated into the device, it works like a seatbelt when a fall occurs. When a sudden acceleration takes place (a fall), the fall arrest device blocks immediately, stopping the fall within a fraction of a second,while the inertia-locking mechanism arrests a fall within inches of activation and can control the falling by brake system of resistance to ratchet double disc, the rope is free to get into work any time.

1. Shell/casing/cover/housing
Fall Arrester is made of sealed aluminum Jacket or plastic shell, It is a composite unit on the market easy to handle and transport to/from jobsites.
In china, most of fall arresters’ shell are made up of high impact strength, one step shaping integrated aluminum alloy which is light, durable, sturdy, corrosion-resistant, non-disassembling/disassembly free, anti-shock and anti-dropping to prevent breakage and nearly indestructible, few of them are made of Polymer, glass-filled polyurethane, ABS, or nylon shell (one kind of plastic) which are all high impact strength and withstands the harsh, corrosive working conditions of the toughest applications thus ensures efficient and safe operation, while inner parts are #45 steel (Corrosion resistant galvanized steel internal working components to extend the life and reduces if any replacement costs). It is the lightest, most rugged lines which are smooth with round edges to increase durability.
2. Rope/cable
Comes with high quality galvanized steel, stainless steel wire rope, webbing rope or synthetic rope lifeline with 4.5 mm or 5.0mm which is connected to a snap hook that is connected to the harness of a worker and has been tested in a simulated fall over an edge and passed national standard and its tension allows the user to move freely around the work area, automatically retractable rope or webbing (belt strap) retracts or extends to different lengths as required and keeps the connection taut at all times, By walking further away from the fall arrest device, the device unrolls the rope/webbing until it runs out and automatically retracts the rope/webbing when the worker comes closer again it rolls up, this makes sure that the webbing is always taut with no slack and excess webbing doesn’t hinder the worker. Roller nozzle reduces wear on cable.
Rope Lanyard offers some elastic properties for many different types of fall arrests, and are mainly used for restraint purposes. Web Lanyard are ideal for restraint purposes when the potential fall hazard is less than 2 feet.
3. Karabiners
Both ends have steel swivel eye karabiners, Self closing and self locking carabiner keeps the SRL securely attached to the anchorage device, it is also called snout for a better gripping of the retractable lanyard. It can be used at wire rope accessories, rigging hardware, marine hardware or other usage.
4. Dual swivels
Anti-twisting dual swivels--double action safety connector with swivel or swivel eyebolt (for unit top and snap hook) included on all cable models to minimize lifeline from twisting during use, Swivel double gate connector permits fall arrester to swivel in multiple directions for greater mobility and swivel action prevents webbing from twisting and binding inside of the unit.
5. Hook
Self-locking swivel snap hook (locking anchorage harness connection hook) and auto twist lock carabiner at both ends is included, both tips utilizing non-skid hook, double action anti-drop hook prevent kinking of lifeline.
6. Self-retracting (tensioning) mechanism
When the self-retracting mechanism doesn’t function properly, there is a danger that the wire rope or webbing will sag when the worker moves closer to the equipment again. As a result, the fall Arrester will not block immediately when a fall occurs and the fall distance may be significantly longer, possibly causing serious injuries.
7. Breaking mechanism
Unique quick centrifugal activated steel breaking mechanism (lock mechanism) is an innovative engineering solution to arrest falls by two-disc anti-ratchet braking/locking system which effective control of the body to fall out of control job when free to pull the rope to use under normal up and down (less than 2 meters per second) without affecting the normal operation.
Anti-ratcheting twin/double disc brake system uses special materials, fabrication processing and treatment with first “double U shaped brake” technology. It is corrosion resistance, freezing resistance, impact resistance and wear resistance. There are three independent locking mechanisms.
A properly working braking mechanism is essential for safe use of an automatic fall arrest device. This has to be tested prior to each use by pulling the webbing firmly downward when holding the casing. Pull until the brake engages without slipping and release, so the webbing retracts back in the casing.
8. Absorber
In-line integrated/integral energy shock absorber for leading edges is used in order to reduce/limit the amount of fall arresting force to the body to 900 lbs or less if a fall should occur. This is built-in or external/ exterior energy absorbers.
9. Retention system
It reserves lifeline retention system for added safety.
10. Loop
Swiveling large pivoting anchorage loop/point also called rotational attachment eye or swivel eye attachment point, is to prevent twisting of lifeline. The attachment anchorage point on the fall arrest block is a cast aluminum swivel eye, suitable for connection via a standard karabiner connector, or a standard karabiner type connector with an anchorage sling.
11. Indicator (optional)
Fall stress and visual impact loading indicator on snaphook integrated on the connector to show use in fall situation and alerts the user when the unit has been subjected to a load.
The fall energy dissipater (ESD) is also a fall indicator, ensuring that the device will not be used again after a fall, which is triggered when a fall is arrested.
The fall indicator is a colored part at the attachment point (attachment end) of the snap hook. When it’s not activated, a green color is showing to point out it’s safe to use the equipment. After a fall has been arrested and the indicator is activated by the forces, a red colored piece is visible. In this case, the equipment has been subject to a fall and needs to be checked thoroughly by a competent person whether it can be used again or needs to be replace.
12. Rope Grabs
Rope Grabs are deceleration devices, which travel on a lifeline and are used to allow for ascension or descend on ladders or slop surfaces and they automatically engage the lifeline and locks, which helps to prevent an employee from falling should they slip.
13. Body belts (optional)
Body belts are designed to restrain a person who is placed in a hazardous work position and reduces the possibility of falling.
14. Chest harnesses (optional)
Chest harnesses help to limit the fall hazard, but will not protect you from a vertical free fall.
15. Full body harnesses (optional)
Full body harnesses are designed to be to use in order to prevent the most severe of free falls.

Fall arrester block with energy system dissipater (ESD) or absorbing end system (AES) ensuring that the user will undergo an impact no less than 600 daN even with a fall when the cable has been completely unwound/fully extended.
ESD ensures absorption of a fall even when the webbing is fully unwound and the ESD system also acts as a fall indicator ensuring that the device is not used again after a fall.
The AES system reduces the strength of the impact on the user’s body in the event of a fall. It efficiently protects the end of the strap secured to the end of the cable against the risks of rupture which can be caused by sharp edges found on terrace roofs.

Caution
One of the biggest challenges in Fall Arrester or fall protection is when the anchorage is too high to access and the clearance distance is too small.
It need to store in a cool dry place, far away from chemical, water, direct sun light and sources of heat and vibration.
Ensure cable section is completely retracted before storage. This is especially important when retractors are left in place outside as components of a permanent fall protection system.
Fall protection components are designed to be used with the same manufacturer's approved components and connecting subsystems. Fall protection manufacturers strongly recommend that fall protection users take full advantage of the functional compatibility built, tested, and approved within the same manufacturer's fall protection components. The manufacturers cannot guarantee the compatibility of substitutions and the use of substitutions may jeopardize the safety and reliability of the complete system.
Need to be checked before each use, during this check, multiple damages or deformations may indicate that the safety of the equipments are compromised. This means that they have to be checked by a competent and certified inspector for all Harness, Lanyard, Lifeline to determine whether they’re safe to use again or they have to be taken out of service immediately.
Although it might look okay and safe from the outside, internal or small damages may occur after a period of extensive use.
The casing might start to show cracks, the wire rope or webbing can be damaged, connectors may not close or lock properly any more, etc. That’s why it’s of great importance that an automatic fall arrest device is checked thoroughly before each use.
Just as all PPE, the automatic fall arrest device must be checked and re-certified annually to guarantee safe use. This check needs to be done by a competent person, who is trained and certified to perform such checks.

Fall Arrest – Overview & Review
We must concern about the continued safety and well-being of their employees, especially in the area of fall arrest and fall protection. It is time for companies to get more serious about fall arresters--fall arrest, positioning, suspension, and retrieval fall arrest. If there is a risk that a worker may fall from an elevated position, a fall arresting system is required.
The system should be used anytime working at 6 feet or higher. Working height is the distance from the walking or working surface to grade, or lower level. This system will only be triggered should a fall occur. The only product recommended for to arrest a fall is a full body harness with a shock absorbing lanyard or a retractable lifeline. The full body harness distributes the force throughout the body, while the shock absorbing lanyard decreases the force of the fall.
Positioning
This type of system holds workers in place while keeping their hands free to do their work. If the worker leans back, the system becomes active. This system is not designed for fall arrest purpose, just to limit the possibility of a fall taking place.
Suspension
Suspension lowers and supports a worker in hands free work environment. For example, this is commonly used in painting industries and among window washers. The system is not designed to arrest a free fall, it should be used with a backup fall arresting system.
Retrieval
Consideration should be given to planning for retrieval should a fall occur. Having a proactive fall management program saves lives.
